Choosing the perfect CMS: MG2 Manager
Roughly one year has passed since my first post on our company's blog and so much has happened since. Our CMS, the MG2 Manager has continued to evolve and we're confident that it's the best on the market. I recently stumbled upon a very good article which highlights ten simple rules for choosing the perfect CMS and I have decided to cover all of the points mentioned in this article and compare them to our MG2 Manager:
1. The CMS you choose should be really good at whatever the main function of your website is.
I can't stress enough how important this point is and how well the MG2 Manager is adaptive. From a simple site with a few information pages to a full scale online shopping center, the MG2 Manager can do it. This is why we've created various packages to allow our clients to take the options that are more suited for them. The MG2 Manager is ready out of the box and we provide you with a training session to make sure that we can answer all of your questions and that you are thoroughly familiar with it.
2. A CMS needs to work intuitively.
This was the driving force behind the creation of the MG2 Manager. We wanted to build a tool that was as simple to use as your regular desktop applications. If you can write a word document, you've already mastered the MG2 Manager. We find it so important to convey this information to you that we even created videos of our CMS in action, check them out!
3. The backend needs to be standardized.
This is a great flaw of many of the CMS out there and one that we wanted to eliminate. Continuing on what was mentioned in the point above, we wanted it to work intuitively and felt that having to login to a backend was very counter productive. Where some CMS require you to go through various menus and options to get to the text or page that you want to edit, with the MG2 Manager you can edit everything directly in the page and see the results right away.
4. The backend needs to be logical and well-organized.
Again, by eliminating the need to login to some backend application, this point becomes obsolete. The MG2 Manager was written and tested thoroughly by people who wanted something very simple to use that didn't have a learning curve. People get used to software working a certain way, menu at the top, clicking on a window's title allows you to drag it around, and this is exactly what we did. No matter what part of your site you are working on, everything is always done in the page and without the need to navigate some backend. In fact, I'm writing this blog at the moment in the exact same page that you are reading it.
5. The right CMS shouldn't have a ton of extra functionality you'll never use.
Another great point, as discussed before, this is why we have various packages. We've also developped plugins and addons that can be added to your site depending on what you need to do. We've trimmed down the options and removed redundant parts in order to provide the most simple, yet most powerful, application. We've also put shortcuts in place for power users and created an interactive help system that is connected to every single aspect of the MG2 Manager.
6. The right CMS should be easy for non-geeks to use.
As I'm convering these points, I feel even more confident than ever about the MG2 Manager. We've already discussed how simple and easy to use the MG2 Manager is but what's important is that it doesn't require any special technical skills whereas with most freeware CMS out there, if you're not technically saavy, you're going to run into problems. with the MG2 Manager this will never be the case. 7. It needs to include a WYSIWYG editor.
WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get and this goes hand in hand with our "in page" editing. This is so important that in our video section, we made 2 videos about our WYSIWYG editor. You can see them here and here. We've expanded further on this concept by allowing you to drag images, files and text from an external site to yours or from within one part of your page to another. 8. The pages it creates should be fast-loading and have simple code.
This is a feature that is at the very core of the MG2 Manager. We've spent countless hours building the proper balance of efficient code, caching systems and database structures. The "magic" that the MG2 Manager does behind the scenes is the heart of our business, our developers spent years fine tuning the application. 9. The template engine should allow you complete creative control.
In terms of design, we completly eclipse the freeware CMS. When you purchase a website with MG2 Media, you get access to your own designer that will make you a complete custom design tailored just for you. With most free CMS software out there, if you've been around them long enough, you know which one is being used just by looking at the website but in our case none of our client's websites look alike. We have designers who specialize in different styles which allows us to give you a full range of selection for the visual aspect of your website.
10. The right CMS should have adequate support and documentation.
